Bos namadicus Falconer, 1859.

The Indian Auroch, Bos primigenius namadicus , was domesticated a few thousand years ago into what is now known as Zebu cattle, and the North African Auroch ( Bos primigenius africanus ) is the most obscure of the three, likely descended from a population native to the Middle East. The subspecies that sticks out is the Indian one, which is not surprising considering that the lineages of taurine cattle and zebuine cattle, and thus B.p. primigenius and B.p. namadicus, separated 1,7-2 million years ago[1], which is considerably longer than between Przewalski’s and domestic horses, for example. Here is a close-up for the Indian aurochs alone: At one time there were three aurochs subspecies, namely Bos primigenius namadicus (Falconer, 1859) that occurred in India, the Bos primigenius mauretanicus (Thomas, 1881) from North Africa and the Bos primigenius primigenius (Bojanus, 1827) from Europe and the Middle East. Only the European subspecies survived until recent times.
It seems likely that zebu cattle may have been domesticated originally from wild oxen (Bos primigenius namadicus) in South Asia, more particularly in Beluchistan
aurochs, or rarely aurochsen, aurochses) (Bos primigenius), also known as urus or ure, is an extinct species of large wild cattle that inhabited Asia, Europe, and North Africa. It is the ancestor of domestic cattle.
I already did a couple of posts on the Indian aurochs, Bos primigenius namadicus, the most comprehensive and up-to-date being this one.At the time of writing that post, the only picture of original material of this enigmatic subspecies I knew was a drawing of one skull.
